Scott Sinclair DBA Ambassador
Scott Sinclair has been unveiled as an ambassador for a national charity helping British Paralympians compete for London 2012.
The Chelsea winger is the new ambassador for Dream It, Believe It, Achieve It, a new charity established last month by GB Paralympians. As ambassador, Sinclair will help the charity raise funds throughout the next four years.
Scott will take part in a charity football game on 12 June 2010, as well as charity golf weekend on 22 to 25 July next summer for fundraising.
He said: ‘There are athletes living in the UK who may not be receiving the funding they need. Dream It, Believe It, Achieve It is trying to make a difference and I’m happy to help.’
There are sports that currently receive no funding for the 2012 Paralympics. Football is one of them.
Matt Dimbylow, who is the inspiration behind Dream It, Believe It, Achieve It was a member of the 2008 Team GB Paralympic Football Squad.
He said: ‘All of the athletes are thrilled that Scott has agreed to support the charity. With his support we will be able to raise awareness of the charity and its aims in the build up to London 2012.
‘When we attended the Beijing Paralympics last year, all the teams above us were in full-time training. If we want a medal, we need to train full time as well.
‘Now we just do self-training couple of hours a day and get together once every six weeks. That is not enough. Our fund raising target is a minimum of £2million.
‘It is a great start to for the charity to be able to announce Scott’s involvement and I’m confident that he will be influential in the continued growth of the charity.’
The Dream It, Believe It, Achieve It Trust has been established by GB Paralympians. It plans to use the power of football to get funding from individuals, charitable foundations and company giving, with the aim of raising £2million over the next three years to enable athletes to compete at London 2012.
The fund is backed by the FA and Paralympics GB. It will mainly support the Paralympic Football Team and Paralympic athletes for London 2012. The money will also be the source of scholarships at universities for Paralympic athletes and give children the opportunity to participate in a healthy lifestyle.
